The pianist Robert Aust understands his instrument as a space for artistic dialogue – between people, cultures, and musical traditions. His career, marked by great artistic curiosity, has established him as a sought-after soloist, chamber musician, and Lied accompanist on stages throughout Latin America and Europe. Key milestones include awards in 2012 at the German Music Competition and in 2009 at the International Chamber Music Competition Val Tidone (Italy). His playing is distinguished by a nuanced, color-rich sound and an immediate, human connection with the audience.
Aust has toured in countries including Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Haiti, as well as regions of North Africa, the Middle East, India, and numerous European countries. As a soloist, he has recently performed with the Orquesta Municipal de Caracas and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Falcón, the Orquesta Sinfónica de El Salvador, the Orquesta Sinfónica de la UANL Monterrey, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Guayaquil, the symphony orchestras of Cusco and Arequipa, as well as with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie and the Philharmonisches Orchester Vorpommern in Germany.
In addition to his concert activities, Aust is passionately committed to international musical and academic exchange. He regularly gives masterclasses in piano and chamber music at universities such as the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Universidad de Costa Rica, the Universidad de Panamá, and the Universidad EAFIT in Colombia. In 2022, he was a guest lecturer at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, and in 2023 at the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City. In 2024, he also assumed the artistic direction of the piano festival “Ponce243” in Mexico City and contributes through the Ponce Project Music Foundation to the dissemination of works by Latin American composers.
Aust studied in Hannover and Rostock with Heidi Köhler and Matthias Kirschnereit and received additional artistic guidance from renowned teachers including Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Klaus Hellwig, Pavel Gililov, Bernd Goetzke, Einar Steen-Nökleberg, and Matti Raekallio. Since 2020, he has been teaching at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, and since 2021 also at the Vocational Music School Sulzbach-Rosenberg, combining his pedagogical work with his artistic practice, guided by curiosity, cultural exchange, and the commitment to make music a living dialogue.
